Vodafone’s 5GDIG

Headline Partner - Vodafone

Back at Unbound London for the Second Year

Vodafone is a key partner of Unbound London, the UK's largest and most exciting innovation festival. This year at the festival, Vodafone will showcase 20 of the 5G-ready startups it is supporting through its DIG programme, exposing them to the 5,000 innovators and innovation-seekers in attendance.

Today, Vodafone has more than 470 million mobile customers, 14 million fixed broadband customers and 9.8 million TV customers. Connectivity underpins everything in today’s digital world. It’s the vital foundation for the applications and technologies that we rely on in our daily lives – think maps, contactless payment, video calls, and the whole range of mobile communications.

As we move further into the digital age, Vodafone is building upon these technologies. This is where 5G comes in. It’s a next-generation network robust and powerful enough to support the advanced applications we are striving for – things like connected homes, driverless cars, and augmented reality.

Vodafone Startup Battle Winners 2018

The 5GDIG Top 20

In early 2019 Vodafone, together with Unbound, completed the quest to identify twenty startups from across the globe ready to profit from the new capabilities of 5G. Find out who they are below!

The Vodafone 5G Battle

During Unbound London, the UK's largest and most exciting innovation festival, Vodafone and Unbound will jointly present each of these businesses and invite five of them to pitch on the Main Stage to investors and corporates. The winner will receive the opportunity to collaborate with Vodafone and travel to an international Unbound festival of their choice.

What is 5G?

Transforming the Way We Do Business

5G is the new network generation and will make future technologies possible. 5G is set to completely transform the way we do business by bringing enormous data capacity, rapid speeds, and incredibly low latency. It will also enable us to explore developing technologies such as IoT, Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR). The first 5G networks will begin to arrive soon, resulting in unparalleled levels of disruption.

5G brings along with it a whole host of new features, including:

  • Low Latency – 5G will reduce the current delay between interaction to as low as 1 millisecond, allowing for faster, more interactive gaming, for example.
  • Capacity – An enormous download speed of 10 Gigabit per second instead of 100Mbps will enable AR/VR massification and other use cases that require high throughput connectivity.
  • Slicing – This provides us with the ability to ‘slice’ the network into multiple layers, so if too many users come onto one layer, others will not be affected.
