Diana Plazas is the Vice President - Brand, Marketing & Digital for Caribbean & Latin America (CALA). Diana joined Marriott in July of 2015 from Hilton Worldwide where she most recently led the Global Brand Marketing efforts for DoubleTree by Hilton, comprised of over 400 hotels in more than 30 countries. Diana spent over nine years of her marketing career at Hilton where she developed award-winning campaigns and led successful marketing & digital teams, and created digital and social media strategies to drive brand results and growth. She is a recipient of multiple Gold Adrian Awards (HSMAI), also recognized as a Top 25 Extraordinary Mind in Sales and Marketing by the organization, as well as a Hotels Magazine and PR News Social Media Icon Award winner. Diana holds a B.A. Degree from Georgetown University and an Executive MBA from Florida International University. Born and raised in Cali, Colombia, Diana is based in Miami, Florida and she is fluent in both English and Spanish. In her role at Marriott, Diana functions as the strategic leader for the marketing & digital organization for hotels in Caribbean & Latin America (CALA) as well as leading the Brand and Loyalty marketing initiatives. Claudia Romo Edelman, a Mexican-Swiss Diplomat, is a Special Advisor of UNICEF, after serving as UNICEF’s Global Chief of Public Advocacy. Romo Edelman is a co-host for the CBS distributed Global Goals podcast, which is part of the We Are All Human Foundation ( an organization devoted to promote radical inclusion, diversity, fight racism and discrimination), where Romo Edelman supports as chair of the Board. She currently serves on the board for Bank Street College of Education, Hispanicize, and Agrosmart. She is an official adviser for the Cannes Lion SDG Awards. In 2016 Claudia was seconded to the Executive Office of the Secretary General of the United Nations, to lead communications and advocacy for the Sustainable Development Goals and Climate Change for the Special Adviser on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. She has successfully led PR, Brand and Marketing for some of the biggest global organizations including the World Economic Forum, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and the Global Fund to fight AIDS, TB & Malaria. David Prodger took up his appointment as British Consul General in Miami in August 2014. David has served in a number of roles, both in the UK and overseas, within the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) since joining in 1999. Prior to this he worked in the private sector as a land surveyor, project manager and business development manager. His previous post was as Deputy Head of Security Policy in FCO London where his prime responsibility was leading UK European security policy. This included: overseeing UK policy towards NATO including in preparation for the 2014 UK-hosted NATO Summit in Wales; leading the UK’s EU common security and defence policy; overseeing bilateral security policy relations between the UK and other European countries; and relations between the UK and the EU and NATO Allies, as well as other partners; conventional arms control in Europe policy; and UK space policy. David has also served as Deputy Head of Mission and Consul General at the British Embassy in Brussels, where he also led the political and public diplomacy team. Before that he was Head of the Commercial Team at the British Embassy in Buenos Aires where his main responsibilities were to promote UK exports and work closely with British investors during and after the 2002 economic crisis. He has also held other posts in the FCO covering the Middle East and Latin America. Prior to joining the FCO, David was a Chartered Surveyor, working with the UK’s national mapping agency, Ordnance Survey, on projects to assist international land reform in Central and Eastern Europe, sub-Saharan Africa and the Caribbean. Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Prelude, Martin Varsavsky is a Spanish entrepreneur who has founded seven companies in the USA and Europe in the past 25 years, all of which are based on new technologies that he identified in their infancy and helped grow. Varsavsky has applied this same approach in creating Prelude,a comprehensive fertility company focused on providing proactive fertility care to improve people’s chances of having healthy babies when they’re ready. The company was established to give men and women more reproductive choices and control over their biological clocks using The Prelude Method. Varsavsky started his career in the late 1980s when he founded Medicorp Sciences with Argentinian scientist Claudio Cuello, Nobel Prize winner César Milstein, and Dr. Phil Gold, working in the field of monoclonal antibodies applied to AIDS testing. In the 1990s, he built Viatel, which became the first pan-European fiber optic network, followed by Jazztel, which did in Spain what Viatel did throughout Europe. When Varsavsky exited Viatel the company was worth $1.2B and when he exited Jazztel it was worth $770M. In the early 2000s he built Ya.com, the second largest Spanish-language internet portal with an investment of $28M, which was sold to Deutsche Telekom a few years later for $650M. Subsequently, Varsavsky built one of the first European cloud computing companies, Einsteinet; co-founded Eolia, one of Spain's largest renewable energy companies; and started Fon, the world's largest WiFi network with over 20 million hotspots. Varsavsky is currently the largest shareholder and Chairman of Fon. Varsavsky runs his own investment fund with investments including Tumblr, 23andMe (the genetic testing company, which sparked the initial idea for Prelude), and Aura Biosciences, whose new ocular melanoma treatment has been granted orphan drug designation by the FDA. Investors in Varsavsky’s ventures include Apax, Advent, Google, Index Ventures, Atomico, T Ventures, BT, Microsoft, and Qualcomm. Arjun Desai is Chief Operating Officer of JLABS and the Center for Device Innovation, the CDI @ TMC in Houston TX. Arjun is responsible for delivering on the goals and objectives across all JLABS sites in North America including the CDI @ TMC. Prior to joining the Johnson & Johnson Innovation, JLABS family, Arjun served as Chief Medical Officer at Avinger, Inc., a medical device company that develops Lumivascular image guided therapies, which combine real time intravascular imaging with therapeutic devices to address cardiovascular diseases. Arjun completed his advanced anesthesia residency at Stanford University and served as chief resident his final year. JJ remains on faculty as a Clinical instructor in the Department of Anesthesia and lectures at both Stanford Healthcare and Stanford Biodesign. Prior to clinical training, JJ served as a fellow in the United States House Policy Committee, where he worked with Henry Kissinger, advising members of Congress on early Medicare legislation, which ultimately shaped Medicaid and outreach programs. Borja Echevarría de la Gándara is Vice President and Editor-in-Chief, News of Univision Digital. He joined the company in June 2014 as digital Vice President for News. He started his career in journalism at the Spanish newspaper El Mundo in 1995. He worked as a reporter in different sections of the daily and was Editor-in-Chief for sports and also of the foreign desk. In 2002, after covering the Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, he took the step into the digital world as Managing Editor of elmundo.es. During that period, elmundo.es became the leading Internet portal in Spanish worldwide.  In 2007 he leaves the paper and cofounds Soitu.es, a pioneering native media in Spain that rapidly achieved a great international prestige. Natalia Vanegas currently serves as a Public Affairs Manager in Miami's local government. She has been leading the City of Miami's initiative "Brighter Days," which will bring the first Solar Bike Lane to our Florida State. Brighter Days was selected to participate in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Solar in Your Community Challenge, a $5 million prize competition that aims to expand solar access to low and moderate income households. Natalia is also the co-founder of the Non-profit organization, Clear Eyes Clear Mind, an organization that empowers women in the world tackling the important basic need of vision while fostering emotional and interpersonal well-being. CECM recently received a grant by the Belizean Grove Foundation to impact the women in our city. Natalia is also a Vlogger, where she spreads the word about well-being and happiness. Natalia graduated from the University of Miami in Journalism and International Studies. She also received from UM a Masters in Education in Community and Social Change. Her experience as a journalist began in 2005 when she was a traffic reporter in the morning newscast at Telemundo, Miami. Her experience expanded reporting on additional topics such as the weather and general news in the city. She participated as an international producer and broadcaster on La W Radio, as well as on other local stations in Florida. Mr. Wood has broad experience both as a serial entrepreneur and as a professional investor. As an entrepreneur, his most successful endeavor was Citrix Systems, Inc., a start up company he co-founded in 1989. Citrix Systems is now a large public company that has grown into a billion dollar Fortune 1000 company and is a major employer in South Florida. Mr. Wood began his career as a software developer working for large companies. In 1981, he co-founded his first company, a vertical application reseller. Learning from that success, in 1989 he started Citrix Systems. After he left Citrix, Mr. Wood founded an investment company, investing in diverse assets from start up companies to commercial real estate. In 2013, Mr. Wood closed his investment company to retire. In retirement, he is still an active investor, now focusing mostly on start up companies. That same year he joined Florida’s largest angel investment group, New World Angels. Mr. Wood is very active in New World Angels serving on its Board of Directors, leading the Sourcing Committee and serving on the board of two of New World’s portfolio companies. Independent of his New World Angels activities, Mr. Wood also serves on the Board of Directors of two other companies and one non-profit organization. Mr. Wood is also very active in the community. He as served as a Final Judge for Florida Atlantic University’s Business Plan Competition for three years. He is also a mentor for the Founder Institute. Mr. Wood has been a member of the YMCA of South Florida Board of Directors since 1998 where he served as Chair in 2008 and is also a past Chair of the Council of Executive Officers of Coral Springs, and as served on the boards of Enterprise Coral Springs, and the Coral Springs Economic Development Foundation. Mr. Wood, 66, holds a B.S. degree in Computer Science from the University of Delaware.
